Daystar University receives international research grant from CCCU

NAIROBI, Kenya) — Daystar University has received a research grant from The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), based in Washington DC in USA. Announcing the 2023 research grants in Washington DC on 19th September 2023, CCCU President Shirley Hoogstra confirmed that a total of US$ 68,000 was released to five research teams comprising a total 23 scholars representing 11 CCCU member colleges and universities, and four additional institutions which include Daystar University.

Announcing the 2023 research grants in Washington DC on 19th September 2023, CCCU President Shirley Hoogstra confirmed that a total of US$ 68,000 was released to five research teams comprising a total 23 scholars representing 11 CCCU member colleges and universities, and four additional institutions which include Daystar University.
According to Shirley, the recipient institutions span a wide geographical area, both throughout the United States and abroad.
From Kenya, Daystar University and Africa International University (AIU) became first-time recipients of a CCCU research grant, and also the first CCCU International Affiliate universities in Africa.
Shirley Hoogstra said the 2023 recipients are expected "to support high-quality Christian scholarship that speaks within the broader academy," said the statement in part.
Daystar University's research team is led by the Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro as the proect director, and includes Prof. Egara Kabaji, Dr. Caroline Ayuya, Dr. Martin Munyao, and Mr. Charles Katua all from Daystar University, and Dr. Niceta Ireri Africa International University. They will investigate the Shakahola horror under the topic: Deception, Occultism and Cultism in the Body of Christ: Towards Understanding of False Doctrine of Death.
“I’m pleased indeed that we can announce these newly awarded projects which promise to add to the outstanding projects we have previously funded,” said Stan Rosenberg, CCCU vice president for research and scholarship and founding director of Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO).
CCCU Grant-funded projects are divided into two categories: Initiative Grants provide up to $30,000 in funding over three years for teams implementing research projects, while Planning Grants provide up to $5,000 in funding over one year for teams setting out to plan research projects.
Congratulating grant recipients, CCCU President Shirley Hoogstra said: "We can't wait to see the impactful work you create."
The Networking Grants for Christian Scholars program was established more than two decades ago through the ongoing generosity of Walter and Darlene Hansen, and in 2020, a generous gift from the Christian Community Credit Union expanded the size of the grants.
Each year, the CCCU awards Networking Grants to scholars whose work satisfies two key criteria:
- the work is significantly informed by Christian practices, perspectives and purposes, and
- the work demonstrates the potential for dissemination in the larger academy.
