[Nairobi, October 19, 2024] In a remarkable fusion of education and entertainment, Daystar University partnered with the famous Churchill Show to host an unforgettable evening at the Carnivore Grounds on Saturday, October 19, 2024, to raise funds for the Daystar University students’ scholarship fund.
The event, dubbed "Mashujaa Day Content Creators Edition," transformed the venue into a vibrant celebration of talent, creativity, innovation, purpose, and community spirit, drawing an impressive crowd.
Students, staff, and content fans gathered to witness an unforgettable showcase of entertainment and talent, all for a worthy cause.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the comedy legend Churchill, took to the stage. True to his character, Churchill utilized humor to convey his message. He then welcomed Daystar University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro to the stage.
The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between Daystar University and the Churchill Show, emphasizing that the event was more than just entertainment, it was about giving back.
Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor passionately highlighted the purpose of the event: raising funds for student scholarships at Daystar University. He underscored the importance of ensuring that no Daystar student falls behind due to financial difficulties. The scholarship fund, he said, aims to provide financial assistance to students in need, ensuring they complete their education successfully without dropping out of campus. His speech resonated deeply with the audience, reminding everyone of the power of community and solidarity.
Among the many comedians present was Daystar student and alumnus.. Walter Mongare Nyambane, a comedian and Master’s degree student at Daystar University, stated that he started off with Churchill during the days of the legendary comedy group Ridiculous. Their reunion brought back memories of their early days in the comedy scene. The crowd was thrilled to witness the companionship between the two veterans; Churchill and Nyambane.
Also present was MC Jessy, a Daystar University Alumnus. His rapid-fiery jokes, clever punchlines, and hilarious stories had the audience roaring with laughter. His ability to connect with the crowd and find humor in everyday situations saw the audience falling to the ground with laughter.
As MC Jessy brought the show to a close, the evening stood as a testament to Daystar University's commitment to its students and the vibrant future of Kenyan entertainment.
The event targeted to raise Ksh 20 million.
The success of the event showcased the power of collaboration between educational institutions and entertainment industry. It proved that when creativity meets cause, the result can be both entertaining and meaningful.
Daystar is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in Kenya through quality education, empowering students to uplift their lives and communities. The Vice Chancellor plays a crucial role in fundraising and building donor partnerships, and ensuring disadvantaged students in the University are allocated scholarships. In pursuit of this cause, the VC spends 40 per cent of his working time fundraising for scholarships.
Currently, Daystar University is sponsoring over 700 needy students from disadvantaged backgrounds. To support this initiative, Mr. & Mrs. Scheffers, an elderly American couple that is a friend of Daystar University committed to match every shilling raised by the University for student scholarships.
