[Nairobi, October 9, 2024]  Daystar University, through the School of Business and Economics, hosted an Investment Public Lecture at the Nairobi Campus. The business forum discussed investment and wealth creation through the Capital Markets.

Present was the DVC=ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru, Principal, Nairobi Campus, Prof. Michael Bowen, Director, Academic Affairs, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, Dean, School of Business and Economics, Dr. Laban Chesang, Manager, Education and Awareness at Capital Markets Authority, Mr. Konrad Afande, Snr. Manager, Education, Awareness and Certification at Capital Markets Authority, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, and Associate Dean, School of Business and Economics, Dr. Joanes Kyongo.

Mr. Konrad Afande and Mr. Samuel Njoroge, shared nuggets of wisdom on investment opportunities through the capital markets. In their presentation on investing in shares, the duo stressed the words of the global businessman and stock market guru, Mr. Warren Buffet, “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.” This statement aimed to familiarize the audience with the miracle of stock market investment.

Expounding on the principle of compounding, Mr. Njoroge advised participants that investing in shares is a long-term game, and not an immediate process. On his part, Mr. Afande expounded on the different levels of risk in the capital markets, labeling treasury bonds as lowest in the risk spectrum.

The duo also shared tips on investing: Identifying investment goals, learning the basics of the field, choosing appropriate investment and managing the investment.

On his part, Prof. Michael Bowen, who is also a board member of Capital Markets Authority, welcomed the team from CMA to Daystar University, and urged participants to utilize the singular opportunity to learn more about the money market. Prof. Bowen encouraged the School of Business and Economics to expose its students and the University at large to financial knowledge that takes them a step ahead in their lives.

Speaking in the same forum, the DVC-ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru lauded the positive gesture by the Capital Markets Authority of partnering with Daystar University’s School of Business to deliver an informative conversation on investment.. She further advised CMA officials to share every bit of information on money market with the participants.

The Dean, School of Business and Economics (SBE), Dr. Laban Chesang, marveled at the turnout of students for the event, commending them for attending the lecture.

Dr. Chesang appreciated the partnership between SBE and CMA in equipping students with financial knowledge. He emphasized the need to understand the modern ways of doubling income to scale up the financial ladder.

“This is an important moment for us all to learn what happens in the workplace in addition to what we acquire in class. It is a time for us to not just keep going but to learn about investing as we do so,” he said.

While moving the vote of thanks, the Director of Academic Affairs, Prof. Samuel Muriithi expressed his pleasure with the CMA representatives for the educative presentation on investment. He called upon them to consider regular visits to SBE to share more insights on financial intelligence. Prof. Muriithi also thanked the University administration for its continued efforts to ensure that students keep abreast with financial trends.
